Tanknology’s PetroScope™ service enables the inspection of the interior of
Underground Storage Tanks (UST), while avoiding costly and dangerous excavation and
manned tank entry.
Permanent video documentation of the tank’s condition is provided.
Introduction
PetroScope is a robotic camera that is used to view the interior of underground
storage tanks. PetroScope provides a safe, low cost method to observe the interior of the
UST without dangerous manned entry or costly excavation. The system was designed by
our staff and has been used in over 7,000 tank inspections around the world.
Description
After inerting the tank, a robotic camera is inserted into the fill pipe of the tank.
The technician systematically videotapes the tank, zooming in closely on suspected
problems; the camera is then able to observe anomalies such as pits, rust areas, obvious
water intrusions, streaks and cracks which indicate that there may be problems with
the integrity of the tank. PetroScope requires no excavation and minimal disruption to
business, thus providing a safe, cost-effective way to view the interior of the UST.
Documentation
Once a thorough video inspection of the tank is complete, a certified corrosion expert
produces the DVD and generates a report for the customer, assessing the integrity of the
tank. This DVD provides permanent visual documentation of the tank’s interior condition
on that day.
